A Recital This Sunday

Recital Benefits the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra

On Sunday March 13, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. the Recital Hall at the Center for the Fine & Performing Arts at TAMIU will be the home for the first Benefit Recital in aid of the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra. The performers will be violinist, David Delambre, and pianist, Vivienne Spy.

David Delambre is no stranger to the stage in Laredo. He played as member of the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra during the year that the San Antonio Symphony was recovering from bankruptcy in 2003. He returned again with his wife Karen Stiles as soloists for the Malcolm Arnold Double Violin Concerto in 2006. He last appeared as the soloist in March 2010.

“Brendan and I have been friends for some time,” said Delambre, “and he supported so many of the San Antonio Symphony musicians during a terrible time for music in San Antonio. And then giving me the opportunity to perform as a soloist was an incredible gift.”

Last summer, as the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra was recovering from a period of financial constraint, Delambre volunteered to prepare a recital and perform it in Laredo as a Benefit Recital to help raise funds for the orchestra.

The program on Sunday will consist of three sonatas, one each by Ysaye, Beethoven and Saint-Saens, and a show piece by the virtuoso violinist and composer Sarasate.

“These are works for violin and piano that are truly standards of the repertoire. It is a pleasure to be able to hear them here in Laredo.” said TAMIU violin professor Dr. Yu Mei Huang.

Originally from France, David Delambre has been performing across the nation and internationally for over twenty years. He was a member of the New World Symphony upon graduation and has in recent years been a member of the Austin Symphony Orchestra and San Antonio Symphony Orchestra.

Pianist Vivienne Spy is an acclaimed chamber musician who has worked with singers and instrumentalists in her native Australia and the United States. She has been a soloist and featured artist on many of the leading chamber musician festivals around the country, and currently performs regularly as a member of the San Antonio Symphony and other chamber ensembles.

Admission to the Recital is $15 payable at the door. The recital begins promptly at 3:00 p.m.. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra.
